Re-Digging Wells

Pastor Kerley of Cornerstone Baptist Church ended Heritage Month at Fairview. It's has been a blessed month listening to four different messages, from four different Pastors, all about the same God and gospel truth.

We all must learn to Trust God on our own. It has to be on our own, to work out salvation and faith, and it has to be real in our lives. We get to the point where we must start to re-dig the wells, the same as Issac. If we re-dig the wells of faith, the Bible, prayer, service and separation the same God that blessed Issac will certainly bless us!

"And the Lord appeared unto him the same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham thy father: fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee, and multiply thy seed for my servant Abraham's sake." Genesis 26:24

Are you Drinking of Bethlehem's Water?

It's been a wonderful blessing hearing the same gospel of the Bible from four different men who have dedicated their lives to serving the Lord. Fairview is wrapping up heritage month this week with Pastor Michael Kerley. Pastor Kerley founded Cornerstone Baptist Church in Crossville, TN in 1988. The church ministries include a Bible institute, bus ministry, youth program and a Bible workshop that binds, packs and ships Bibles, Cornerstone also supports approximately 70 missionaries.

The message of David in II Samuel tells us that we must not be discouraged, God is still in control. When the mighty men brought David the water, he didn't drink the water, but poured it out as a sacrifice to the Lord, David realized the sacrifice and what it cost to get it. Today, our freedoms, faith and future are easy to drink. But, are we pouring the water back out to the next generation?

"And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it." II Samuel 23:17

God Changes Lives

This evening's service from Pastor Austin Gardner was such a blessing.  How wonderful it is to hear stories of just how God is working all over the world and in the lives of Christians. But how many people are there in the world who have never heard the truth about God? Who don't know who Jesus Christ is and the price He paid for our sins? Our sovereign God is the God of heaven. God changes lives not only at home, but all over the world. So lets use this week as an opportunity to spread the gospel!

"Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame." I Corinthians 15:34

We finish up Heritage Month next Sunday, August 27, at Fairview with Pastor Mike Kerley of Cornerstone Baptist Church

The Love of Jesus

It's the third week of Heritage month at Fairview Baptist Church. This morning we welcome Austin Gardner, the founding pastor of Vision Baptist Church in Alpharetta, GA. Pastor Gardner is also a veteran missionary to the country of Peru, South America for over 20 years. The Lord blessed his ministry and allowed him to train pastors and leaders in the ministry that have started 80 plus churches all over the world. He has started multiple schools for ministry including the Peru Bible College and the Our Generation Training Center.

We were so blessed with a pastor who is serving the Lord by training missionary families. The whole world deserves to know God's love, that Jesus saved us and to go to heaven. To the world, the idea of God is someone who is angry and hard to please. But the truth is, God cares and loves us and wants the world to be saved. God loves the whole world and sent His son, Jesus Christ to pay the sin debt of every man, woman, boy and girl. He is so good, but the world doesn't know about it. How can we do more to get the gospel to a world that needs Jesus?

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:" Mathew 28:19

Pastor Chuck Herrell continued the evening service with a message of obedience. When God calls us to do something, be obedient to His will. Just because we are in the world doesn't mean we are to be of the world. We are to be different. Our time here is so short so let's not waste a minute that we could be serving and honoring Him!

Join us next week, August 20th, as we welcome Dr. Austin Gardner of Vision Baptist Church.

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." Romans 12:2

Practice of the Gospel

It's the second week of Heritage Month and today Fairview Baptist Church welcomed Pastor Chuck Herrell. Pastor Herrell has been preaching for 41 years. He pastored the Mamre Baptist Church in Ohio for 13 years and he has served as pastor of Chilhowie Baptist Church in Chilhowie, Virginia since 1994. Pastor Herrell and his wife, Linda, have one daughter , Angie, and one son, Fairview's own Assistant Pastor, Bro. Matt Herrell.

What a blessing it was today to hear a message of practicing the Gospel. Our beliefs are followed by our actions and the behavior of our lives ought to come from the Bible. The Holy Spirit must have complete control of our lives and is the key to Christian living. God doesn't want us to put on a show for others to see how holy we are, but just believe the gospel. Let our Christian life not only show who we are, but what we are!

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." Romans 12:1

We certainly enjoyed the message from Dr. Michael Allison this evening. What a blessed day to honor God and His heritage.

We often ask ourselves, "how are we going to know what would Jesus do?" The Bible says,  "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.". If we want to know what Jesus would really do, all we need is to open the Bible and find out. Because whatever He did back then, He would do the exact same thing today.

Fairview Baptist Church will continue heritage month August 13 as we welcome guest speaker Pastor Chuck Herrell from Chilhowie Baptist Church.

If I'd Only Known...

It's August and the beginning of heritage month at Fairview! Each Sunday during the month we will be having guest speakers who are serving the Lord and honoring His heritage.

This Sunday morning we were blessed to hear Dr. Michael Allison. Dr. Allison was born in Sturgis, Michigan and married his wife, Janet, shortly after high school. He was saved in October of 1971 while working his afternoon shift at radio station WAOP in Otsego, MI. He was called to preach in 1974 and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Tennessee Temple College in 1976. He also holds a a Masters Degree in Religious Education and a Doctor of Ministry from Bethany Theological Seminary and an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Fairhaven Baptist College. He has been pastor of Madison Baptist Church since 1989.

Dr. Allison spoke today on how the wisdom of man always falls short of the wisdom of God.  What a difference in man and God. Man sees death on a  cross while God sees the blood flowing to give us life! Let's not refuse and reject the wisdom of God. Lets not looks back and say "If I'd only known!"

"Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory." I Corinthians' 2:8

A Landmark

Over the course of the summer, Camp Fairview has seen over 500 area youth! Many life choices were made and 17 souls were save. God has indeed blessed this ministry. We were blessed with a video/slideshow at this evening service. While on topic of today's youth, Pastor Matt gave us a message on why today we all too often hear the phrase "a generation gone" Why is that? Have we removed the ancient landmarks? Children are always watching us for leadership. So always keep in mind, what we do in moderation, they will do in excess.

"Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set." (Proverbs 22:28)

As summer comes to an end, Fairview Baptist Church will be focusing on building our pulpits and will be hearing special messages from guest Pastors each week during the month of August. Please join us for Heritage Month!

From I John, the Bible tells us "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life." is a true testimony of the living and resurrected Christ. In the beginning, Jesus was here. His disciples walked, observed and did not just know Jesus, but experienced Him.

There is a hard truth that occurs when we are saved. The truth that our old sinful nature is not eradicated. We do still have the old nature of the flesh, but when we are saved, we also take on a new nature of Christ. We will continue to have a war going on inside. Every person that is called a "good christian" will be warring with the spirit and still have trouble with the flesh. Even though we are Gods children and are saved by grace, we have this warfare going on.

So how can we stress the assurance of our salvation? When we are in fellowship with God, we KNOW that we are saved. Men will always be sinners, but that debt was paid for all by Jesus. We can know that we have eternal life and not base this truth on emotions. The only way we are saved is because the Bible says we are! We serve a God who can not lie. God loves us when we are unlovable. He is faithful to forgive us when we confess our sins.

Know that when God saves us, He wants to fellowship with us. How can a God who created everything out of nothing leave us comfortless? When you think about your life, are you simply tipping your hat or are you serving the Lord? Do you only seek His help when you are in trouble and your back is against the wall? Don't save your fellowship for when things aren't going well. There is a holy fellowship in confession to God and not man. When we confess our sins to God, He is faithful to forgive us.

Be thankful that God is so faithful. We are going to have problems in our walks of life, but when we have a daily cleansing, we can have forgiveness. Confess all your sins, for there can be no forgiveness without this confession. Our God is faithful and just, and knows things that are going on in our lives that we would be so embarrassed of just the thought of anyone else knowing. But God does know. God always knows our exact thought. But we can't walk in the darkness and have fellowship with the one who is the light. Confess your sins to the Lord. How long has is been since you had fellowship and felt clean?

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." I John 1:9

All Things

All of us, young, old, single or married are giving our lives to something. What is it you have given your life to? We all have desires, things we think about and even dwell on. What's the first thing that comes to your mind? Are we giving everything we have to gain something we want? If we are going to be successful in our lives with God and our Christian lives, we must have self discipline in every area of our lives. We must commit to what God wants every day.

There is a reality of life that we must consider. All things were created by God and for God. He created all of us for a purpose. When we consider life, we must be living for Christ and that we may serve and bring glory to Him. It doesn't matter what or who we have in this world, Christ must be preeminent and be first. Christ, who has given us life, must be our number one priority!

We sometimes may wonder what is the reason we have to make all things about Him. The reasons are simple. The only reason we are alive is because of God. He is the only reason we are alive, and for that reason, we desire to lift Him up, know who Christ is and what He does. Think of every reward or trophy you have received. Just know, no matter what triumph you have, it is nothing when measured up against Christ.

God knows us better than anyone and He knows that we all want to be rewarded and have something to strive for. But lets not strive for temporal things here in this world. A fine house, new car and big boat will be lost in the history of life. After everyone forgets, we will be back to where we started and work for something else that doesn't matter.

Our eternal reward will be our crown of life! In heaven, our rewards and crowns will never fade away.  So what are we striving for? Are we giving our lives to Christ? No matter where we are going and what we are doing, let's always put Christ first. Consider in everything we do and give the glory and preeminence to Him. Get a hold of God and let go of the other areas in our lives. What have you given your life to?

"And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible." I Cor. 9:25

A Revival

What a blessed day to worship the Lord with guest Pastor, Dr. David Dickerson from Peachtree Baptist Church. Dr Dickerson and his church family have been coming to Camp Fairview for more than 40 years.  We certainly enjoyed his preaching ministry today!

Isn't it amazing what God can do with everyone when we are committed by Jesus and controlled by the Holy Spirit? With the word of God we can also be controlled by the scriptures. When this happens, it can change everything and a revival in our hearts can begin.

The word revival is often misunderstood in our day. "Re"- simply means again, while "vive"- means alive. When we bring honor and glory to Jesus in our homes, we can be brought back to God and have revival. If we start this revival in our homes, it will lead to a revival in our nation. God is able to rebuild our hearts and there is no problem that is bigger than our God.

We are all sinners and the wages of sin is death. Thank God for sending His son, Jesus Christ, to take upon flesh to die and pay our sin debt. Jesus came and paid for our sins and with his resurrection we are justified. Jesus paid the blood and paid it all for our justification. So let's begin this revival and saturate our lives and church with His Holy Spirit!

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;" Acts 3:19

The Unknown God

Many can say that they know God, but do we really? The world will often take Jesus and put him on a shelf with many other gods. We can be involved in church and many other activities but not really know God. If we aren't careful we will become a nation of Christians who do not know God. We can have a knowledge of God and still not know who He is. Do you realize that the devil has an intellectual knowledge of God and even knew Jesus? Yes we may know God, but only in our minds.

God is the one who created everything. Things didn't evolve, God created them. He created all and we must realize we are responsible to Him. We are serving a God that created us. God is also all powerful and we are the benefactors of the power of God. We think we know so much by the things we think we've created, but we've only done these things by God's grace. We simply don't know just how powerful God is. There is no comparison to what we can do by what God does achieve. With His power and wisdom, He can wipe everything off the face of this world. We think we are breathing on our own, but our very breath is controlled by God. In Him we move and have being.

God didn't just create and sustain everything, He determines everything. God is sovereign and there in no one telling Him what to do. Our God is also a God of mercy. When we are in the darkness, do we feel after Him and find Him?  We have the opportunity to make a decision and the opportunity to receive the truth. Some may mock or delay the decision and think everything is just going to be okay in life. But one day God is going to judge us. We must not hesitate in His will.

To not make a decision is to make a decision. We have no idea how the gospel is going to impact the lives of people. The unknown God is very knowable. He is seeking you out even if you are not seeking Him.  Only through Christ and the resurrection can we really know God. Through Jesus Christ our lives can be forever changed, our sins forgiven and all things are new!

"For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you." Acts 17:23

Enduring Trials

Fairview Baptist Church welcomed Dr. Dave Douglass and music by Grace and Truth from Hyles-Anderson college this evening. What a blessed evening hearing Grace and Truth sing to worship the Lord. We are thankful for their visit and Dr. Douglas'  message of enduring and the consequences of sin.

What a selfish thing to purposefully sin without thinking of the consequences in our lives and the lives of others.  We must consider the consequences and always consider God's goodness and love. We must trust God that He is infinitely wise and that He is in control!  Consider God's goodness and don't cave in to internal temptations. To endure temptations we must consider the consequences, consider His goodness and finally, consider the divine nature that lives within. The Holy Spirit of our infinite God lives within all of us right now. Be patient during the trials, pray during the trials and don't waste trials. Learn something and gain wisdom from them.

You can find more information about Hyles-Anderson college and Grace and Truth at

"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12"

Service at Camp Fairview

Fairview Baptist Church gathered at Camp Fairview this evening. Following the service we also had a summer cookout. What a blessing the message, food and fellowship was!

Fairview Baptist Church will be having our bible school 7/5-7 (10:00a.m. - 1:00 p.m.) at Camp Fairview. This will be a wonderful opportunity for children to get to know the Lord!! Don't miss it!! Click the link below for more information about Camp Fairview.

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22.6

One Nation Under God

We live in such a wonderful country! A country that has a heritage of Christian values with a Constitution of bi-laws with scriptural truths. A country with strength and solidarity based on Christian faith. Yes, most certainly, God has had His blessings on this country. But have we turned in to a nation that has forgotten God?

The strength of our nation begins at home with our strength in God through our homes, family and children. Things are so different than they were just a few years ago and with the liberalism going on in our country, we seem to be moving away from the truth of God. The devil is a very patient being and what he can't accomplish in one generation, he will try in the next.

It's very progressive how Satan moves in. Satan can creep in and make religion based on good works and deny Christ and the blood sacrifice He made for us. Satan can make people believe they can have their own ways and think being a good person will surely get them to heaven. But lets not deny Christ or let false truths infiltrate our lives. Today we need to take a stand, and stand for the word of God.

'Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core." Jude 1:11

God is Looking

What are we looking for in today's world? What is our hearts desire? Is it a love, kindness or happiness? We can all think of  things that we may be looking for and never find them. We may even not be looking for God, but God is always looking for us!

We can sometimes feel we don't have any joy or happiness in our lives, but God is still looking. God doesn't see us, our sins or all our problems we think we have. When God is looking on us, He only sees the sacrifice that Jesus made to pay for our sins. We don't deserve it, but what Christ did on the cross gave us God's mercy, forgiveness, grace and love. When we come to know Christ as our personal Savior, it fixes our place in eternity. We begin to have a relationship with God and we are the children of the King.

God is looking and sees us. He is ready to forgive us when we fall before Him and ask for His mercy and forgiveness. He is ready to pour out His blessings. There will never be a day where we will look back and say we wished we hadn't. God is looking and wants you to come to Him!

"I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance." Luke 15:7

A Mighty Man

Happy Fathers Day from Fairview! What a wonderful morning to worship the Lord and celebrate all the dad's. the Bible is full of mighty men for God but it doesn't end there. There can be mighty men for Christ in the world today.

Man was made in the image of God and the likeness of our Savior. Men can take a stand in the world for Christ and help lead the lost to the Savior. As dad's we will leave an imprint on our children forever. We want to leave an imprint of responsibility, as a provider, a prayer warrior and always show leadership according to God's word.

Men can be physical and not mind standing out or being the center of attention. We can get out in front and be a leader and stand for Christ. We can also be committed. Committed to God and be leaders of the family. This doesn't mean we won't be alone at times. What is times get hard or people don't understand? Don't just back away. It's so easy to be a Christian on Sunday mornings with others, but what about when we are by ourselves and in our homes? Always take a mighty stand for Christ,

When you do take that stand, you will certainly be in good company. When we are around great teachers and mentors who believe what the word of God has to say and that Jesus is the only way to Heaven, we are in good company. It's a simple plan to live for Christ and obey His word. We shouldn't quit taking a stand for Christ. Doing what is expected and average is rarely going to affect anyone. It takes more and we shouldn't be satisfied with just the average. Victory in life does not come from just being average.

As fathers and men we will have a great influence on the lives and hearts of others. So let's do more than what is expected, more that what is just average. Lets stand for Christ and have others want to be in our presence. Raise up and be mighty men for God!

"But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the Lord wrought a great victory." II Samuel 23:12

Behold I Come Quickly

As believers, every day we should be looking forward to the second coming of Christ. But along with His coming back, He will also be giving His rewards. Throughout the Bible we are promised of the blessings we will receive as believers. We should use these blessings as a filtration in our every day work and keep these sayings of the prophecies of the Bible. For one day, we will be receiving the rewards as bible believers.

Salvation is by grace and grace alone. God gives this opportunity to the world and He will reward us for that. But sometimes we can be saved and suffer great losses. Our lifestyles do not indicate our salvation, therefore, we will suffer the loss of the Lords rewards. We can be saved, but become an outcast, but when we are saved by the grace of God, we certainly have God's approval. So, when Christ comes back to give His rewards, some believers may not receive the rewards that could have been given.

Our salvation is holy of God and we have no part, except making the decision to come to the Savior. Salvation isn't earned by works but by His mercy and there is only one way to heaven: Jesus Christ.  There is no middle ground on this. Salvation is received by faith, not works. We always have our salvation, not hope for it. Salvation is a simple matter even to a child or an adult. So there is no need to complicate it as the world does.

So our rewards from God are earned by our good and faithful works after we are saved. After we are saved, we must do the things that God tells us in His word and He will reward us for that. We may not understand just how the Lord will do this, but the Bible says that rewards will be given to the believers who have earned them. We will not be judged for our salvation, but rewarded for the works we've done after we accept Christ as our personal Savior.

Salvation is always a present blessing. From now or a thousand years from now. Our sins are forgiven in salvation and rewards are our future blessings, compensation and earned. Salvation is by faith, never lost, inspires and encourages in suffering. Rewards for our works could be lost. We should be inspired to earn our rewards, and won't we wish we had done more and been more obedient?

We shouldn't treat the rewards the Lord will give out lightly. We can sometimes get to a point where we want the temporary things of this world, and relinquish the rewards that will be eternal. There are hours of opportunities we will waste and not worked for the Lord. But know that one day, He is coming back. One day, rewards will be given. A few simple questions to consider: Are you saved? What are you doing in your life to glorify Him? Every person needs to be serving. So give yourself to Him.

"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." Revelation 22:12

Affecting the World

Do you know that Jesus has control over everything? He was able to calm the storms, raise the dead, healed many from their diseases, even blindness and deafness. As Christians, we should hope to have such an affect on the world and the world to see our Lord Jesus in all we do.

Salvation can't be explained through logic by the world. The medical field has no way or part in explaining the lives of a christian. So in part, the world has no place in the lives of a christian. As Christians, we should be in opposition to all the world stands for. We are not comfortable enjoying the things of this world, but looking forward to what is not in this world; spending an eternity with our Savior, Jesus Christ.

As children of God, we are different. Although we are not a part of this world, the world is always affected by Christians, For what is a believer left in this world for after salvation? As born again believers, we are to stand and be the salt and light for Jesus. We can stand for Christ and make the world better. A child of God can affect the world and help the world to seek Christ. Our lives are to be the light and that light comes from Christ So let the world see that light and introduce others to our savior.

Christians can always draw a response. Let someone feel better when you're around. Be so Christ-like when others see you, they automatically think about Jesus. As a believer, you are a mystery to the world. A Christian is a person who has a settled and obedient mind and the world and the unsaved are scared. For they know we have what they need.

So ask yourself this, "Is the world different because of me?" Have an affect on the world through Jesus and make the world different because of it!

"Return to thine own house and shew how great things God hath done unto thee, ...." Luke 8:39
